  12. charlie hayes, regardless of what the yankees say, is an absolutely
  13. average defensive third baseman.  he was absolutely average before this
  14. year (the yankees said they were getting a great defensive whiz) and
  15. he was absolutely average this year (the yankees think he's graig nettles,
  16. after having found the fountain of youth).

  18. besides that, he just plain blows, hittingwise.  this was clearly his
  19. best season; he's probably not going to get better, and he's probably
  20. going to revert to his normal form (even worse than this pitiful year).

  22. meulens is young.  meulens may improve.  meulens may become very good.
  23. hayes will never.  i'd rather give meulens a shot than let some schmuck
  24. who hits like don robinson play.

  28. then asked, "why protect maas? blah blah blah blah blah?" and did NOT

  32. maas and o'niell have trade value, not because they are good, but because
  33. there are idiot gms who think they're good.  the two of them, plus hayes,
  34. if he's not taken, may be able to land a good player and a few prospects.
