  13. Well, if you're looking for good skiing near the 'burgh, then
  14. you're in the wrong place  :).  Take it from a CMU grad.

  16. Within good driving distance, you have...

  18. Seven Springs  1.5 hrs   Summerset Co.  Donegal exit off T-pike
  19. Hidden Valley  1.5 hrs   ditto
  20. Wisp           3   hrs   Deep Creek Maryland
  21. Holiday Valley 5   hrs   Ellicotville, NY
  22. Snowshoe       5   hrs   Elkin, WV
  23. Peak 'n Peak   4   hrs   Upstate PA.  Don't remember the town.
  24. Boyce Park      .5 hrs   Small.... Blecch.
  25. Oglebay, WV    1.5 hrs   1 hill, poma lift.  Tiny.  Cheap.

  27. Seven Springs is the standard, since it's so close.  It's better
  28. than Hidden Valley, but typically more expensive and more crowded.
  29. Also has more of a reputation for drunk skiers.  The hardest slopes
  30. are on the North Face.

  32. Holiday Valley & Snowshoe are good for weekend trips.  Longer runs
  33. than the immediate local stuff.  Nothing in the *real* double-black
  34. range, but some good slopes.  They're also significantly longer
  35. than those closer to home.  Snowshoe also recently bought another
  36. resort (Silver Creek?) that was on the same mtn, so they're huge now.
  37. (51 runs, I think.)  Cupp run at Snowshoe is excellent.

  39. Wisp is a nice, uncrowded area.  I really like it.  Their facilities
  40. are a bit spartan, though.

  42. Peak 'n Peak is fairly inexpensive, but if you're gonna go that far, just
  43. go for Holiday Valley.

  45. If you're going to be skiing on a December Weekday, you won't have
  46. any lift line problems at any of these places, as long as you're going
  47. before the Christmas Holidays.

  49. As for ski conditions, WDVE has condition updates.  You may also want
  50. to call Willies.

  52. There are some resorts out toward the eastern end of the state that I'm
  53. not familiar with (Blue Knob comes to mind.)
