- On the contrary the high snowfall. wind and subsequent moderate temperatures
- resulted in perfect avalanche conditions in the French alpes with at least
- 9 people being killed in separate _ON PISTE_ avalanches this weekend.
-
- At one resort, Val Tho(rens) 7 students on a day trip from Lyon were killed on
- a red piste (I didn't catch the name of the piste but only 3 were open when I
- went last week) and 3 were injured, the resort is closed.
-
- 2 British skiers were killed in a seperate avalanche at another resort, the name
- wasn't given in the news report ??? more details anyone ???
-
- That said, the snow enabled l'Alpe d'Huez to open some runs 2 weeks early this
- Sunday and a great days skiing was had by all. This resort is not prone to
- avalanching on the pistes leading down to the resort.
-
- The resorts that open early 'round these parts seem to have zero patrolling,
- and little preperation, care should be taken.
