  10. I'm hoping the wisdom of the net can help us decide where to go! I and a
  11. friend are planning to spend the first two weeks of February skiing in
  12. America. Trouble is, that's a little vague. We've done what research we
  13. can from brochures, guides, the net etc., and come up with a short list
  14. of resorts, but can't agree on how to shorten it any further. Any advice
  15. or tips would be welcome. Neither of us has skied oustide Europe before.

  17. The general idea is to spend a week in each of two resorts/areas. One of
  18. them is almost certainly Jackson Hole. The "short" list for the other is
  19. like this (after two hours of elimination last night):

  21. a) somewhere in Utah - probably Snowbird or Alta? (my best bet)
  22. b) Taos
  23. c) Telluride
  24. d) One or more of Aspen, Vail, Summit County (his best bet, I think)

  26. We haven't managed to agree to eliminate any of these. We're both good
  27. skiers, but not experts (give us time!), and enjoy doing things we find
  28. harder more than looking good on easy runs. The biggest attraction of
  29. US skiing for us is good powder snow (not too common in Europe these
  30. days -- I hope the fame of Rockies snow isn't all hype). We don't care
  31. about beautifully groomed trails or extensive nightlife. Slightly
  32. worried by (i) expecting rather smaller ski areas than we're used to,
  33. and (ii) tales of zealous policing to stop us doing things like skiing
  34. fast or skiing off the piste ...err, trail (practising the language).
  35. Don't like lift lines (who does?), but at least one of us (the other
  36. one) is not really into hiking to get to the skiing. Will probably
  37. think about taking a few lessons.

  39. Any informed advice will be appreciated. I promise not to post your
  40. secrets if you send me them by e-mail, but otherwise will summarise
  41. if response/interest is enough to warrant it.
