- Figure Skating Show Pays Tribute to McCall
-
- Toronto (CP) From Ottawa Citizen, Monday Nov 23, 1992
-
- A star-studded figure skating show raised more than $500,000
- towards AIDS research Saturday and realized a dream of the late
- skating champion Rob McCall.
-
- "We know Rob is here in spirit because Rob would never miss a
- party like this one," Tracey Wilson, McCall's former ice dance
- partner, told the sold-out crowd at Toronto's Varsity arena.
-
- McCall, an Olympic medallist and seven-time Canadian champion with
- partner Wilson, died of AIDS a year ago at 33.
-
- During his illness, McCall dreamed that a cure would be found,
- and started planning a spectacular ice show to raise money.
-
- The two-hour Skate the Dream extravaganza showcased champions
- including Brian Orser, Kurt Browning, Katarina Witt, and Brian
- Boitano.
-
- British skater Robin Cousins got the easy-to-please crowd going
- early with some hip thrusting and provocative posing in his bluesy
- routine.
-
- American Scotty Hamilton danced his way to a country tune right
- on to the lap of a blushing but appreciative spectator, and crowd
- teaser Browning brought the house down with a funky number.

- Any typos are mine. CTV is planning to show part (or all?) of the
- show on December 19, I believe. Watch your listings (in Canada).
