- Here in Canada, airport designators all begin with the letter Y,
- and usually make no sense at all. For example, Toronto (Malton)
- is YYZ, and Montreal (Dorval) is YUL.
-
- Fortunately, VIA Rail does not use these codes. It has its own system
- of 4-letter abbreviations. E.g. Halifax (HLFX), Truro (TRUR),
- Moncton (MCTN), Saint John, New Brunswick (SJNB), Montreal (MTRL).
- These are mainly for internal use, and would not normally be seen
- by the travelling public. A passenger booked in a sleeping car on
- the Chaleur going from St. Lambert to Gaspe would appear as SLAMGASP.
