- It is common knowledge that retailers often face official
- listed dealer costs which are higher than the advertised retail costs
- shown in NYC mail-order houses. There are a coouple of explanations:
- 1) The cost to the retailer goes down as he orders in bulk
- Having looked at 2-3 retailer price lists, even the official
- dealer price gets cheaper when ordering 2 instead of one
- (for expensive items). A dealer who ordered 25 ideantical
- or camera bodies might be able to get them for less than
- what mail-order prices are selling them for retail.
- 2) The retail dealer and the mail-order guy don't always have to pay
- the official dealer cost, even when not ordering in huge
- quanitties. There are specials, rebates, and discounts, and
- incentives.
