  12. There was a recent discussion about "homemade" dog food for dogs with
  13. Renal function problems...sorry I can't find the original post, but here is
  14. a "recipe" that can be used for dogs that are on a restricted Protein and
  15. Phosphorus Diet. (reprinted from the Cornell University College of
  16. Veterinary Medicine Animal Health Newsletter, May 1992).  This is taken
  17. from a very long article on Chronic Renal Failure in Cats and Dogs...if
  18. there is enough interest in the article, I will go ahead and type it in and
  19.  
  20. post it.

  22. RESTRICTED PROTEIN/PHOSPHORUS DIET FOR DOGS

  24. - 1/4 lb ground beef (regular)*        
  25. - 1 large egg, hard-cooked                
  26. - 2 cups cooked rice without salt
  27. - 3 slices white bread, crumbled
  28. - 1 t. Calcium Carbonate
  29. - Balanced supplement that fulfills the Canine MDR 
  30.      for all vitamins and trace minerals

  32. Braise the meat, retaining fat.  Combine all ingredients
  33. and mix well.  This mixture will be somewhat dry, the 
  34. palatability can be improved by adding water (not milk !).
  35. Yields: 1.25 lbs
