- We have next door neighbors who own two cats. They never let these
- cats inside their house and ever since they had a baby I don't think
- they get a lot of attention. We started having a problem with one
- of the cats, Spanky, coming into our house. We had cats doors so
- that our Tara could come and go without us having to constantly open
- and close doors for her. Tara and Spanky seem to be pretty accepting
- of each other outside and so Spanky started to hang out in our yard,
- which lead to coming into the house through the cat doors.
-
- Tara is a really picky eater and there is always uneaten food that
- she nibbles at. Spanky would come in and devour all the food in site.
- We even woke up one morning to the sound of Spanky scratching our
- furniture!
-
- We've since installed one of those magnetic cat doors. This keeps
- Spanky out (except for once in a while when it doesn't latch properly).
- We then started to allow Spanky to come in on supervised visits. We
- even would let him have a little food in a separate dish (I know, this
- was probably not a good idea). The problem is that now Spanky (and now
- his brother too) seem to hang out all the time on our deck hoping that
- they can get let in. Every time I go near that door I see Spanky
- out there looking pathetic, his little paw raised up, making little
- plaintive chirping noises! It's obvious that they're getting lots
- more attention with our "less-than-once-a-day" visits than they do
- at their own house. I feel sorry for them, but I don't want to "steal"
- their cats away and Tara is not very happy when Spanky is in the house.
-
- I don't really think there is much I can do, but this is such a strange
- situation I thought I'd share it with you all. Sorry for such a long
- semi-rambling post!
