- Are all Humane Societies the same? Here in Albany I have visited two shelters.
- One calls itself the ___ shelter,* the other the Humane Society of ___. The
- shelter is excellent. Each cat or kitten has a cage with litter box, food and
- water dish, an old rug or towel or bit of blanket to use as a bed, and most
- also have a cat toy. "Family units" have double or triple size cages. The
- Humane Society, on the other hand, keeps their cats on [not for the squeamish]
- pine chips ! like I use for my guinea pigs. No litter boxes! No blankets for
- cat beds! To their credit, the pine chips looked fresh. I was still repulsed.
- I won't even go into the conditions of their dogs. Suffice it to say that
- the shelter has a much better situation all around, including plenty of
- volunteer huggers to help the cats stay used to people. I have also adopted
- from the Humane Society in Michigan, and their shelter was similar to
- the 'good' shelter here.
-
- *actually, I think the shelter is called the Animal Protective Foundation, or
- some such.
-
- My two cents worth.

- GE has no opinion on animal shelters. I do not speak for GE.
