- My roommate has a black cat, and he Christened the cat with the name
- Spooky. Now, I believe in the theory that dogs will respond to anything
- and cats will respond to nothing. Others believe, however, that a cat will
- respond to its name. With that in mind, let me present this paradox.
- Since the cat came to live in our home, her name has experienced a process
- of de-evolution. Her name has turned in to different names (all from the
- mouth of my roommate), and has in turn been altered in to variants of the NEW
- names. Here are some of her titles:
-
- 1. Spooky
- 2. Znookie
- 3. Znookum
- 4. Znoober
- 5. Boo-boo
- 6. Boo-Boo-Roo-Boo
- 7. Lame-o
- 8. Lame-Cat
- 9. Bookum
- 10. Bookum-kitty
- 11. Fluff-a-lufagus
- 12. Spooky Z. Arkoff
- 13. Kaiser Heinrich von Kittyschtein
- 14. Le Bon Chat (only used once)
- 15. Poo-Poo Head
-
- Now, I understand that cats only hear what they wish to hear, but is it
- confusing for Spooky to have more names than a Russian novel? Have we
- ruined what ever chance Spooky might have to understand her name? I must
- admit, she has been Znoober most of the time, but still it is rare
- for her to have only one name per day.
