  24. My cats have always been males but I think it still applies. The fact of
  25. cats becoming fat, boring, neurotic, etc after being fixed is a myth. They
  26. are more prone to gain weight, especially if they aren't getting enough
  27. exercise, so getting fat is a possibility. You can easily avoid that.

  29. The FAQ says (among many other useful things):

  31. "An unbred, unspayed cat has a much higher risk of developing cancer 
  32.  of the reproductive system. Again, spayed females do not lose their
  33.  energy or change their personality after the procedure".

  35. There are a lot of risks in not getting her spayed. If she escapes 
  36. while in heat, start looking for kitty homes. Be prepared to have toms
  37. trying to force themselves inside your home, and likely spraying the 
  38. outside while they're waiting. Not to mention having to put up with her
  39. generally annoying behaviour while she is in heat.

  41. I have also read that the health risks are high for queens who are never
  42. given the opportunity to mate, besides that quoted above. I don't 
  43. remember any specifics.

  45. As for personality, my two males became a little bit more affectionate
  46. (so I would like to think :) ), and being outdoor cats they did stay 
  47. much closer to home. Otherwise they're the same calculating, mischievous
  48. beasts they have always been.
