- We and our cat would greatly appreciate any information/advice
- regarding the ear problem described below...
-
- Our cat, Pest, developed a "blood blister" in the erect part of
- his right ear. Our vet did surgery on 9/16/92 to drain the blister
- and to re-attach the front and rear tissue of the ear (with some 19
- stitches). When the stitches were removed about 12 days later, the
- surgical incision was still open and the front and rear tissues had
- not reattached to one another.
-
- After much back-and-forth, we were advised to just keep Pest in
- his (plastic) Elizabethan collar and let the ear granulate 'till
- it healed.
-
- Just over a week ago (11/7-8/92) the surgical incision finally closed
- (7 weeks after surgery). Almost immediately, the blood blister reformed.
- On 11/9/92 our vet gave us the same two options that we were given
- back in September... (1) to do nothing or (2) to repeat the surgery.
-
- When on 11/13/92 the blister had suddenly grown to include the entire
- erect ear (and was at least 2cm front-to-back), we went to another vet.
- This vet used a hypo to drain 18cc of "old blood" from the ear,
- placed a rolled bandage into the ear, wrapped the ear around that
- rolled bandage, and then taped round and round the wrapped ear. The
- intent is to give the front and back tissues of the ear a chance
- to heal together.
-
- *** Has anyone out there had similar experiences? If so, please tell
- us how the problem was resolved.***
-
- Many thanks in advance.
