  17. I think that, that far back, the Ealdorman would have worn the most
  18. beautiful and ornate clothes and jewelry he could get and afford (as
  19. many have already remarked on this bridge).  He would also have been
  20. surrounded by his large, well-armed following, and you would know he
  21. was an Ealdorman because you knew who he was...or if you didn't, you
  22. would damnwell soon learn.
