- I think the idea that events are the purpose of a groups activity is
- outright wrong.
-
- Events are one subset of the possible collective endevours of a group;
- other collective endevours include things like performing arts, team
- approaches to military skills, and collective heraldic display.
-
- So long as there are sufficent collective endevours going on (it takes
- a very small group indeed for one to be sufficent), I don't think it
- matters what the kinds are. It is not hard for me to imagine a small
- canton that would rather do drama or singing and go to other events
- and blow people's socks off than hold their own events.
-
- It is hard to argue that they wouldn't be adding something to the Society
- around them; ditto a group that gets into bringing *heaps* of showy banners.
-
- A *requirement* for events does not serve the purpose of avoiding
- insularity; other than mandating the presence of representatives of
- a group at a royal court held somewhere else, I can't think of what would.
