- If one considers the renaissance to end with the reintroduction of Hellenic tho
- ught back into Europe the renaissance starts in the 12th Century in Southern It
- aly. See Haskins The Renaissance of the 12th Century (title may be slightly dif
- ferent. Things also get interesting at approximately the same time in Spain wi
- th the Reconquista exposing the catholics to the moorish libraries. The book c
- opying that took place in Toledo etc was a major reintroduction of thought. On
- e could also tie the Renaissance to the foundings of the universities such as
- Padua. The art history names of the periods seem to have little to do with the
- intellectual and cultural changes given the previous dates covered.

- To get a better feel for the sweep of European History I recommend McCready's h
- istorical atlases. There was a lot of localized leading and laging in the proc
- ess. The SCA tends to like to mix concepts of multiple times and places. Indiv
- idual cultures were different although coexistent.
