- My philosophy would be that if they don't hold events where the kingdom is welcome and invited, then maybe they should just be a household.
- Any of the 3 things you've listed could be held on a weekend and pub-
- lished, for instance.
- Hmmmm, perhaps you could think of it as the SCA's equivalent of taxes.
- I'm not sure I've articulated this very well. I have a tendency to
- accept things as they are. Here's another thought on the subject:
- We all enjoy attending events. So that the plate may be full of
- events to attend, every official group should hold at least one event
- that any who wish may attend.
- There's another benefit to smaller groups holding events. In every
- group, there are those who don't travel. Holding events will allow
- those people to be exposed to the rest of the SCA, rather than just
- their insular group.
- An underlying part of this assumption is that the event is the
- culmination of SCA activities. All our book work, all our classes,
- produce the event, something to be shared with the rest of our group.
- Perhaps that's the root of this -- if they're not holding events, then
- they aren't really sharing their version of the SCA with the rest, and
- that's a large part of the SCA to me -- sharing that which has been
- acquired.
