- I have finally finished sorting through a quarter megabyte of text
- files and produced the first draft of the new "Nude Beaches Etc. FAQ"
- to supplement Steve Pierce's existing FAQs. I will post this draft in
- 2 parts soon after posting this article. My purpose here is to solicit
- comments on these drafts and provide some explanation.
-
- First, I would like to thank Steve Pierce and the people too numerous to
- list who provided the input which was the basis for this new FAQ. Your
- contributions are what really made this FAQ possible.
-
- Next, I need to make it clear that I have no personal experience with
- almost all of the locations listed in this new FAQ. I seriously need
- help from all of you to ensure accuracy of what I have presented. Any
- updates on any entry in the FAQ would be greatly appreciated. Even
- if your update is only to tell me that the price hasn't changed where
- I noted that a parking price I quote is 2 years old, that helps.
-
- One thing this FAQ can't be is a replacement for sources such as the
- World Guide. The goal is to provide info on those locations discussed
- often enough to warrant a "canned" description to rec.nude readers. A
- secondary goal is to show newbies that CO locales can be found all over
- the place; so if you don't see it in the FAQ, ask the net if you might
- have one "right in your backyard."
-
- A big problem was deciding which spots to include in the FAQ and which
- to leave out. I felt uncomfortable listing commercial locations because
- I didn't want the FAQ to be an advertisement for them (or for their
- competition;-). I therefore left out many interesting locations such
- as the resorts in Jamaica, not to mention many good landed clubs in
- the U.S. If the rec.nude readership would rather that these spots be
- included, I will defer to such a consensus.
-
- I went a little bit beyond just providing info on the half dozen locations
- most commonly mentioned on rec.nude. I included entries on less commonly
- discussed spots if they are in parts of the country which are commonly
- discussed (namely, California) or if they were so far from anything
- else mentioned that they helped provide more uniform coverage of the
- whole country. Opinions on entries I included which should be dropped
- or entries which need to be added are very welcome.
-
- This initial draft of the FAQ shows a distinct bias towards California
- (in fact, its two parts are "California" and "not California"). There
- are a number of reasons for this, some good some bad.
- 1. I'm from California, so I may just be showing my own bias.
- 2. Silicon Valley dominates Usenet, and those who don't live here
- are likely to visit here; thus we really do see questions about
- California asked more frequently.
- 3. We have lots of good beaches.
- I really would like to see the FAQ provide less spotty coverage of
- the rest of the country. Send in those entries.
-
- The FAQ is sorely lacking anything outside of North America, Little
- Beach in Hawaii being the only such location. For that matter, only
- 3 spots listed are outside the contiguous 48 states. Should we have
- more entries from elsewhere? Given the low demand on the net for
- sites in Europe, Australia, etc., do these belong in the FAQ? If we
- don't cover those areas, should we use "Distribution: na" for the FAQ
- (or do non-North-Americans want to hear what we have to offer)? If we
- do decide to list locales from all around the world, we could have one
- volume of the FAQ for each continent; in such case I already have one
- written:
- ANTARCTICA: The only totally clothing-optional continent. Of
- course, you will probably opt for clothes. :-)
