it sounds kind of similar, but it's NOT identical to Esther; here's my best
guess of what it sounds like (just from memory, not listening to the tape);
let's start on F; i think it goes: (in 4/4 time)

Q=quarter note
E=eigth note
H=half note
% means hold the previous note

well, i gather that there are a lot of additional signals, but most of them
are cues for the band, not the audience; after finding out about the signals
and listening to some slightly older tapes, i've picked up things that i
never noticed before; in one signal (i can't remember offhand what the cue is),
the music just kind of falls apart; i don't know how to precisely describe it,
except to say that everybody kind of starts playing random stuff, like musical
gibberish; in another signal, the music all of the sudden got really slow; i'm
not sure if it was just half time of the original tune, or if it was some
other slow steady beat (actually, maybe i have an example of both); as for the
"asshole in the front row", it's a two part sign; the first part means that
you're going to point to something; i've never heard of the song that this
comes from, but supposedly (the way trey announced it) it's "Me and My Arrow";
hmmm... let's see if i can describe how it sounds...  (ok, this is a bit of a
wild guess); pretend you're in 3/4 time; give one beat to each of "Me"-"And"-
"My"; then give two beats to "A" and one more beat to "rrow"; i think that the
"Me"-"And"-"My"-"A" are all on the same note and that "rrow" is a minor third
down; anyway, that's my best try at it, just from memory; the second part of
the sign indicates what you're going to point at; supposedly there are a bunch
of possible things, but the only one that i know that trey announced was the
"asshole in the front row"; i think i remember what it sounds like, but the
closest i can come to describe it is "wah-wah-wah" (pause) "wah-wah-wah"

anybody with any others?  lee, just what was that signal that you wasted
several digests by posting digitally, only to have it not work?

about nye hotels...  i stopped by northeastern tonight on the way home from
my piano lesson to check the place out; it is indeed a hockey rink, although
i didn't have an opportunity to look inside; it is indeed very close to the T,
although i wasn't able to get a straight answer as to how late the T runs on
nye (i'll call the MBTA tomorrow and ask); there isn't a great deal of non-lot,
non-resident-parking-permit-only around the arena, and there aren't a hell of
a lot of nearby hotels; but i asked around a bit, spotted a few, and got some
suggestions of places to try out, so i'll make some phone calls and get back
to the net; if you're interested in teaming up for a group of hotel rooms (and
if we get enought people, who knows, maybe we could get a group rate) and
haven't yet sent me e-mail, please do so; if you've already sent me mail,
don't send me any more info yet; i'll ask for confirming info from everybody
once i have some detailed information to give
