  13.     MTV is running a contest where they have ten `special' videos.  These
  14. videos are identified by showing a small circular logo in the lower right of the
  15. screen for a few seconds during the video.  If you write down all ten videos
  16. and mail it to mtv you get in a drawing for 10,000 cds (I think) and $10,000
  17. and an unspecified stereo.  Entries must be received by January 28th.

  19.     Rather than stay glued to a boob-channel on the boob-toob,
  20. I thought it would pretty cool if people on the net who have seen one or
  21. two of the `special' videos could contribute to a public list of them.

  23.     I realize there are some flaws in this approach:

  25.     1) Why would I want to tell everyone else the videos I know about?
  26.        Won't that just make my chances of winning the drawing less?
  27.  
  28.        Answer:  You can't enter the drawing unless you have all ten videos.
  29.        So unless you are prepared to dedicate day and night to watching mtv,
  30.        you probably wouldn't be able to enter the contest anyway.

  32.     2) If someone lies by saying a video is `special' when it really isn't,
  33.        that will screw up everyone who uses the list.

  35.        Answer: People can always double-check for themselves.  One can
  36.        probably get an mtv playlist and watch at specific times to verify
  37.        a video's `specialness.'  Additionally, if more than ten videos
  38.        show up on the list, we know someone is lying.

  41. contribute to the list.  I will take care of posting any e-mail
  42. replies I get.
