- Doesn't sound so odd to me. I find it's promoted by fairly loud white noise
- such as from a fan or (as someone else already said) a subway. The bass player
- in my band says he often comes up with musical ideas on the bus or subway.
- It's probably a sensory recall thing not directly related to musical training,
- because it used to happen to me as a kid way before I started to learn about
- music and tried my hand at composing. It was somewhat voluntary -- I could
- concentrate on a particular song and soon it would be playing "on its own".
