- Someone asked about jazz flutists. This just happens to be
- one of my favorite topics. :-)
-
- Here's a few:
-
- James Newton. Check out "African Flower" and "Romance and Revolution"
- and "If Love".
-
- James Moody. (doubler) Older recordings where he plays more flute.
- (Sorry I don't have a specific recommendation).
-
- Hubert Laws. "Flute by Laws" and "In the Beginning" show good jazz work.
- Beware of his somewhat commercialized "classical" stuff (Rite of Spring, etc.)
- not really jazz.
-
- Buddy Collette. Pioneer and elder statesman of jazz flute.
-
- Holly Hofmann. Good flute player, bebop tradition. 2nd recording better
- than first, IMHO. Third recording release due in December. Local to San
- Diego right now, has toured the country and been abroad.
-
- Eric Dolphy. I like "Out To Lunch" and "Last Date".
-
- Wayman Carver (doubler, first recorded flute solo in the 1920's)
-
- Yusef Lateef ------
