- Why apologize? You're free to speak your mind here. Burn the damn flag if you
- want to, trash the song, protest America's overseas jingoism on foreign soil -
- America will survive it (though some reactionary types might not take kindly
- to it.)

- Why? Because America is built on _values_ and _laws_, not symbols like a piece
- of cloth or a stupid, awkward-to-sing anthem that glorfies America's violent
- beginnings rather than celebrating its virtues. Values like freedom, diversity,
- and tolerance. Laws like the Bill of Rights, the system of checks and balances
- laid out in the Constitution, the free press.

- I think the ones who ought to apologize are the spodes who knee-jerked at your
- "home of the brave" comment. I recall a quote that says "I'd rather vote for
- a man who burns the flag than one who wraps himself in it." For the true
- patriots are those people who love their country and its people, and want
- something better for both.
