- On the two occasions that I have been launched--er, lunched--I didn't
- really have much of a sense of control. (What a surprise, eh?
- considering I was in the middle of wrecking).
-
- Once I tumbled--ass over teakettle--and I didn't care for it much.
-
- Once I slid--on my side and back--and I didn't care for it much.*
-
- Crashing...I'm against it. Vote NO.
-
-
- * While sliding along the pavement, I *did* have a sort of instinct to
- push away from the bike as it slid along next to my face--and I did so
- (I was afraid of getting tangled up in it).
-
- I also distinctly remember thinking "well, this is going pretty
- well...". Really.
-
- But choosing to tumble or slide? Nope. By the time that sort of decision
- (theoretically) should be made, I was mostly just catching on to the
- fact that my life had just taken a sudden detour. Should I die in a
- wreck I have little doubt that my last words will be either "shit!" or
- "What the f---?" (or maybe, Slap! "I could have had a V8!")
-
- Not to go too New Age (gack), but I tend to think that visualization
- before the fact may have as much impact (heh) as any conscious decision
- you make on the fly (sorry). Similar to the way you constantly plan
- and revise escape routes as you pick your way through traffic--it all
- becomes instinctual through application of deliberate thought. Or not.
-
- Happy trails,
-
