- |Randy sounds pretty surprised, and although I have a ZX-10 instead of an -11,
- |I'm also a little surprised. I would think that our brakes are pretty similar,
- |and the front brake on my -10 is very capable.
-
- Yeah, I was a little surprised. However, a subsequent poster mentioned
- something that I left out of my post that might explain his dissatisfaction
- with the ZX-11 brakes. The aspect of maintenance.
-
- I completely purge my brake (and clutch) hydraulic lines at least once a
- year, and replace with new Castrol DOT 4 LMA brake fluid. If you fail to do
- this, then I'm sure you will be dissatisfied with your braking power due to
- the water and air in the brake lines. (I ride year around also - if you
- store your bike at all, you will need to do this more often, perhaps).
-
- The only time I have been dissatisfied with the brakes on my 1990 ZX-11
- was when I needed to bleed/purge the brake lines, and the one time I made
- the mistake of putting EBC Gold pads on it. Perhaps the brakes could be
- better (I rode a lady friend's GSXR1100 yesterday that had awfully touchy
- brakes - perhaps they were better than mine, although they bugged the hell
- out of me since I wasn't used to them), yet I do a bit of pretty aggresive
- canyon riding periodically, and have been happy with them.
-
- | It has enough braking power to
- |lock the front wheel without incredible effort, but enough feel so I can avoid
- |locking. No squishiness at all.
-
- Yeah, I can lock the front wheel if I try to. The only improvement I might
- try to do is to add steel braided lines to improve the already-excellent brake
- "feel".
