  31. I think my dad had one on one of his Beezers.  He had a Watsonian and a Stieb
  32. at various other times.  I his Watsonian (I think) he could and did carry 
  33. three adults.  Two more on the bike and the hole 'combo' carried more people
  34. than most affordable cars of the period and had better performance.  I spent
  35. my early years being ferried around in combos.  Father was in the RAF and did
  36. not earn much money.  He could not afford a car and could not afford the
  37. petrol to run a car either.  After the war (fifties and early sixties) petrol
  38. was comparitively expensive in Blighty.  Many many people had bikes, purely
  39. as affordable transport.  This was one of the reasons (I presume) why most
  40. British bikes were singles and twins and used single carburettors in order to
  41. be economical.  Nowadays, petrol usage is a bit OTT.  Kay only does about 
  42. 41MPG which is a bit disgusting, but I do ride her hard though.  C'est la vie.
