- Was eastbound on Blossom Hill Rd and took the #87 westbound off-ramp with
- a burgundy colored 300ZX on my butt...it's a decreasing radius turn which
- makes it difficult to increase the speed until past the apex especially
- on a '86 GL1200I and that, in turn, enabled the 300ZX to stay glued to
- my moto. Rather than continue this near copulation of moto and cage I
- elected to swing a wide arc all the way over from the merging on-ramp
- lane to the far left lane and accelerate to 80mph. The 300ZX faded into
- the background. However, it wasn't due to my tremendous speed although
- the Wing can do low 13s in the 1/4 mile with an experienced moto mag
- test pilot. A white moto was closing in on me. I pushed the throttle
- down into putt-putting at 60mph, but it was too late as the red lights
- were flashing. I pulled over to the shoulder of the Santa Teresa off-ramp,
- turned my moto off and dismounted. The CHiP's moto was a '89 FXRP. He
- didn't even take out his ticket book! He told me to just slow down and
- I explained matter-of-factly the circumstances (300ZX) of my little
- stunt (he didn't like the wide arc). He nodded at that, but stressed
- that I should slow down. I talked about his FXRP with him and he said
- that he was one of the lucky ones who got a HD rather than a Kawasaki,
- but stated that, despite 50K miles onnit, his scoot has been completely
- overhauled *3* times and the trans rebuilt *2* times. I was astonished
- and he said it's mostly because the CHiP motos get a lot of hard use,
- but based on the reliablity (or lack of it) he wouldn't buy one for
- himself as a personal scoot. He also said that they tend to be auctioned
- off for roughly $5K vs $1500 for the Kawasakis. Anyway, after a little
- more small talk we shook hands and went out separate ways after he pulled
- into the Union 76 gas station on Curtner and Almaden Expressway. Still,
- am only too happy to be spared a speeding ticket...maybe it was the USA
- flag decal on the back of my helmet? :-) We chatted for about 20 minutes
- but I didn't want to press my luck by asking him why I wasn't ticketed.
- If he catches me in the act again he may not be as forgiving.
