  16. idea that the head is the part most likely to be damaged in an accident,
  17. and any little bump will turn you into a veggie to be supported at state
  18. expense for the rest of your life.

  20.  In reality, you have a helluva lot more to worry about than just
  21. bumping your head.  Statistically, legs are in a lot more danger.  The
  22. head is also a fairly tough item, as has been graphically demonstrated
  23. by the Los Angeles Police Department (smile, you're on candid video!).
  24. Finally, I don't know of any helmetless veggies being supported at state
  25. expense - most states will either turn you out or let you die; they're
  26. not in the business of providing free medical care.

  28.  You are undoubtedly better off wearing a helmet, but the fervor of
  29. Those Who Will Save Us From Ourselves tends to raise people's hackles.
  30. Like seat belts, abortion, or gun control, it's a subject normally
  31. discussed with more fervor than reason.
