- -> But why on earth would anyone *NOT* wear a helmet. A guy with a 100$
-
- Propaganda from various political action groups have foisted off the
- idea that the head is the part most likely to be damaged in an accident,
- and any little bump will turn you into a veggie to be supported at state
- expense for the rest of your life.
-
- In reality, you have a helluva lot more to worry about than just
- bumping your head. Statistically, legs are in a lot more danger. The
- head is also a fairly tough item, as has been graphically demonstrated
- by the Los Angeles Police Department (smile, you're on candid video!).
- Finally, I don't know of any helmetless veggies being supported at state
- expense - most states will either turn you out or let you die; they're
- not in the business of providing free medical care.
-
- You are undoubtedly better off wearing a helmet, but the fervor of
- Those Who Will Save Us From Ourselves tends to raise people's hackles.
- Like seat belts, abortion, or gun control, it's a subject normally
- discussed with more fervor than reason.
