- As I remember when growing up from my teen years in the
- late 60's my dad used to run "white gas" in his lawn mower.
- He used "American" or "Flying A" (boy if that doesnt date me).
- That was termed "white gas" and supposedly had no lead in it.

- From a friend of mine in Manville NJ who has been in a fire
- department for 12 years and is into "fire stuff". Coleman fuel
- is almost pure Naptha and from his comments is pretty nasty stuff
- as far as burning is concerned (apparently popular in arsons I gather)

- In an "EMERGENCY" you could always try it, however it would have to
- be an "EMERGENCY" and not an "emergency" if you know what I mean, I
- would not risk a $grand+ just to find out.

- Here in the NJ area they are selling "oxygenated" fuel in all the
- stations, and boy did the milage on my S-10 go down when I was
- using it for the first 2 weeks of oct (Oct1-Apr1) now I buy my
- gas in PA where they use normal stuff. While I was at guard this
- past weekend at Ft Dix one of the guys had bought a Nissan Pathfinder
- and was pretty pissed about the whole thing, the additive in the
- oxygenated fuel ate up the gaskets or diaphram in the fuel pump
- and trashed some stuff in the injectors. The bitch was that Nissan
- would not cover it under warranty. Guess I'd be pretty tight if
- I just spent +20k on a new truck and voided my warranty by using
- the wrong fuel. His question to the dealer was "What the hell am
- I supposed to do" dealers reply was "Buy your gas in PA or NY state"
- Great answer in my book.

- The Military dyes their fuel "Red" (NJ state does also) so to
- me it is an aid. Never knew anyone else did, I used to use
- avgas in my GT350 after I added Hilborn FI back in 68 but
- it was rough on the plugs. Wouldn't run on anyting but
- sunoco 250 or 260 and flat out would not start using
- Shell or Gulf premium. It was kinda indifferent to Amaco
- or American as it was known then. My 1100 seems to run well
- on almost anything though I was concerned when leaded gas
- was no longer available and I did not want to carry 5 or 6
- vodka "airline" bottles around with me (with my luck some
- one would drink one thinking it was vodka) Sunoco only has
- two grades of fuel, the other 5 are resultants of mixing in
- the pump.
