- I have been thinking of the same trip, fortunatley I already have
- the perfect bike for it. The Honda ST1100. Integrated Hard luggage, nice
- big comfortable seat and an engine that cruises at 85 ( 4250 RPM) like it
- is standing still. Maint interval is 16000 miles, so the whole trip requires
- 0 valve adjustments. Add a box on the back and a tank bag and your ready to move out.
-
- It's stable in all conditions including heavy cross winds, good acceleration
- and excellent handling at high speeds, ( not a quick turner) but much quicker
- then a Wing. I think you will start to see them on the used market for
- around 6500 this spring.
-
- Drawbacks, only one, it is very very heavy. Well it is pretty tourquey also,
- I wouldn't want to spend a lot of time on gravel roads. I have heard the
- TA highway was paved, ( i'd love to know for sure).
-
- It's an easy 300 mile per day bike, you could probably handle 500 mile
- per day if your willing to cruise at 80. A BMW PD might be nice but the
- ST is less money and has better specs.
