- For anyone interested in the current status of Norton
- the main sources of information are U.K. motorcycle
- press releases and occasional mentions of their uncertain
- financial situation by papers such as the "Financial Times".
-
- There is to be an updated version of their current "F1"
- sports bike that will make its debut at this December's
- U.K. Motorcycle show. This machine is meant to be homologated
- for World Superbike racing. Norton are working on fuel injection
- and an improved internal rotor cooling scheme. (Whether, or not,
- these ideas will feature on the new model has not been revealed.)
-
- Norton don't seem to advertise their range very well. The "Commander"
- touring model is promoted in a few trade ads. but the only publicity
- for the "F1" has been a few (mixed)reviews by U.K. bike magazines.
-
- I am keeping my fingers crossed that Norton survive the current
- slump in the U.K. economy: Their immediate survival relies upon the
- good will of various creditors.
-
- I expect to see at least one Norton race team competing next season
- at British events but think it is unlikely that they will raise enough
- sponsorship to do World Superbike.
