- Well, John Dakar is under the work gun, so I thought I'd call up Motowear
- I find out for myself (800-333-3155). I ended up talking with Pat ?? who is one
- of the owners of the parent co. which is a work clothing mfgr, but he and his
- partner are riders who were looking for something different than leathers.
-
- The Details:
- Their suit is a 1-piece elastic-waist coverall-styled unit made of 500 Denier cordura
- nylon, same as Aero. There is kevlar/lycra at all the impact areas and the whole
- suit is stitched with kevlar thread. The soft armour is a closed-cell .375" thick
- pads at the shoulders/knees/elbows. It has 1 or 2 pockets because they feel that
- there is inherent danger in putting such things as keys etc. into a breast pocket
- in the event of smacking the pavement. There are zip-open vents which can double
- as pocket, but they're trying to avoid adding more pockets. It is water-resistant,
- about the same as an Aero, and will handle cold down to ~40 deg F. It comes in 3
- colors: Red - Black - Blue. They have 4 std sizes, S-XL, but they take your
- measurements and adjust your suit accordingly - about 5 weeks wait. Price is $349.
-
- I asked him how he perceives his position vis a vis Aero, he said that the Aero
- is a good suit with a few more bells and whistles than Motowear, a little more
- convenience, slightly thicker insulation. His testimonials are coming forth from
- a Cycle World writer (missed the name) and locals.
-
- My impression is that it is a good riding suit, if what you want is a suit to
- wear to work, casual day or weekend rides, but not the full-up touring suit
- capabilities that the Aero offers.
-
- When John Dakar gets out from his work load, he can yea or nay my phone impressions,
- meanwhile I have a brochure coming the mail ...
-
- Have a great weekend!
-
- S.
