  21. Not really -- what happened is that the FAA published its incredibly 
  22. complicated version of something with a glancing resemblance to what
  23. we actually proposed.  At that point, it IMMEDIATELY went to our 
  24. LAWYERS, who put together all the appropriate magical incantations 
  25. to hammer the bastards roundly.  That sort of magic takes time, but 
  26. it also saves time in the long run.

  28. (After five years of waiting for the FAA to do squat, we hired these 
  29. experienced FAA-affairs lawyers who ran through three rounds of
  30. responding to the FAA's typical "fuck you" letters with letters of
  31. the sort, "You say this, but see court case X where you can't say that; 
  32. you claim that, but see court case Y where you can't claim that; so 
  33. terribly sorry, but fuck YOU, and you better stop dragging your ass 
  34. or tell it to the judge."  And voila -- publication magically occurred.)

  36. So what happened here is that the lawyers needed all this time to work
  37. up a tight 60-page legal tiger cage that the FAA is not going to be
  38. able to argue or squirm their way out of.  These guys are GOOD.

  40. In point of fact, we ordered reprints of the FAA proposal before they
  41. even had any in stock.
