  17. That's not obvious at all.  In fact, it sounds almost like you're 
  18. implying that the medieval Japanese weren't bright enough to have come 
  19. up with anything original on their own.  :-)  (That's a joke).

  21. I believe there were significant influences on Japanese culture
  22. from the older culture of China, especially during the T'ang Dynasty and some 
  23. others, but the Japanese culture also (as you no doubt are aware) has some very
  24. distinctive features of its own that show up in all of their arts,
  25. including martial arts.   Japanese Zen has some flavor to it that is not found 
  26. in most other interpretations of Ch'an.  And Japanese classical weapons
  27. schools (which are a large part of the background of Aikido) were very
  28. unique in many ways.

  30. Aikido is derived from the original contributions of Ueshiba Morihei,
  31. his esoteric religious prefererences and socio-political leanings,
  32. the Takeda Daito-Ryu Aikijutsu lineage, and other classical Budo/Bugei
  33. training of Ueshiba.
