  10. I'm sorry - I can't post the green golf ball joke.  The last time It went
  11. around the company, people were xeroxing it and posting it at all the coffee
  12. stations and in the xerox room.  It costs too much in productivity from all
  13. the people reading it and then laughing for the next 2-24 hours.  Think about
  14. it -- If you add up all of the money they are being paid to laugh their
  15. guts out, it turns out to be a _very_ expensive joke.  It's commonly filtered
  16. from all of the .com's out there.

  18. So here's a replacement (not _nearly_ as funny though)

  20. I was in a college physics course discussing electromagnetic theory.  The
  21. professor (Vladimir) had recently immigrated to the United States and was not
  22. versed in our slang.  He was preparing to give a demonstration on how like
  23. charges repel -- using two styrofoam spheres suspended from threads at the
  24. lecture table.  He began:

  26.  "Ok, I demonstrate like charges repel.  Zhou vil notice I hav two balls."
  27.  
  28. (add accent as appropriate.)
  29.  
  30. And one guy from the back of the lecture hall yells out...
  31.  
  32.  "So do I!"
  33.  
  34. Now, the classroom busts out in laughter (college - what a concept).  But
  35. the funniest part is that the Prof. doesn't understand why.

  37.  "Vhat is it?   Vhy is evrybody laughink?"
  38.  
  39. Mildly bothered by the uncontrolled response, he proceeds to continue with
  40. the demonstration (which involves creating a charge on a rod of amber by
  41. rubbing it with a piece of rabbit's fur)

  43.  "OK, Now, I am charging my rod"  as he vigirously strokes his amber with
  44.                   the rabbits fur to generate a static 
  45.                   charge.

  47. Keeping the classroom's frame of mind, this action promotes even further
  48. uproar and confusion on the Prof's part.  He just can't figure Americans 
  49. out!

  51. I don't know what was funnier - the dialog or the confusion on the poor
  52. guy's face.  It's a course in physics, not comedy - yet the class laughs
  53. every time he trys to do something.

  55. Well - not as funny as the green golf ball joke - but It's the only other
  56. ball joke that comes to mind.  **Please do _NOT_ post the green golf ball
  57. joke!**  If you want it - send e-mail.  I've got a copy stashed.
