  12. Some scientists at Stanford recently conducted an experiment. They
  13. wanted to see how well a man might function with parts of his brain
  14. removed.

  16. They asked for volunteers from California's death row inmates. They
  17. chose one man who had an IQ of 155.

  19. The first experiment involved the removal of 10% of the cerebral
  20. cortex. Afterward they asked him to count to ten. He replied "one,
  21. two, three, four, five" etc. to ten.

  23. Next they removed another 20% of the CC and repeated the request to
  24. count to ten. "One, two, three, four" and so on to ten.

  26. The scientists then decided to remove the remainder of his brain. After
  27. he regained consciousness they asked him to count to ten. He replied,
  28. "Uno, dos, tres, quatro....."
