- #I want to buy either the super blackhawk hunter or the
- #super redhawk stainless .44 mag. The blackhawk is single

- #action with swing out cylinder. I like the feel of the
- #super redhawk better, but I kind of wanted a single action.
- #I was also wondering about the fixed vs. swing open type
- #cylinders. The super redhawk has a much thicker barrel.
- #Price is not the issue. I can get the super blackhawk for 317.00
- #and the super redhawk for 378.00. thru my ffl.
- #I am interesed on comments about these guns and general topics
- #that I have listed.

- I should preface this by saying that I've never used the
- "hunter" version of these guns, but I think most data from
- the standard models will apply.
-
- I personally hunt (and shoot target, and plink) with a Super
- Blackhawk (old model, but I don't think it makes much difference
- in this discussion). I've stayed with the same gun because
- there is something to be said from being very familiar with
- a gun, and also because I am constantly developing the system
- (me, the gun, the ammunition) and the system is constantly
- improving.
-
- The Super Blackhawk is an excellent hunter, although I
- suggest Pachmayr grips to make the big game loads more
- comfortable to practice with. From personal experience, the
- best hunting stance is a Weaver stance with left-thumb
- cocking, so the SA/DA difference is not important. When
- you master this, you can be _very_ fast and _very_
- accurate. Before the Freedom Arms .454, this was considered
- one of the strongest handguns made.
-
- Interestingly, in an article to compare .44 Mag and .30-30,
- Guns and Ammo found that _most_ of their test subjects,
- neophytes and pistoleros alike, were more accurate at 100
- yards with the Super Blackhawk than with the Winchester 94.
-
- My experience with the Super Redhawk is limited, but very
- positive. The one I shot _may_ be just a bit more accurate
- than my Super Blackhawk, but that's just a maybe. I think
- you'd be just fine picking whichever you like best.
-
- If you hunt with .44 Mag, be _sure_ to get a Hodgdon's
- reloading manual (any printing) and study the H 110 loads.
-
- Whichever you pick, I hope you have as much fun as I've had.
