  27. Yes, a spade.  Ewen's book on opening leads deals with lead-directing
  28. penalty doubles.

  30. As an aside, there's something strange about the opponents' bidding?  Isn't
  31. KJxx enough to prefer 4H to either 3NTx or 4D.  Sounds like another
  32. questionable alert.  If asked what the alert meant, did LHO reply "transfer
  33. to Hearts" or did he say "according to our agreements, it's a transfer but
  34. it hasn't come up in three years so your guess is good as mine"?
