  16. LAS VEGAS(AP)  Sands Hotel owder Sheldon Adelson says he is scaling
  17. back plans for a major expansion at the Strip resort because of a
  18. changing economic climate and concern about possible overbuilding
  19. here.

  21. Adleson is chief executive of The Interface Group, which produces the annual
  22. Comdex computer show in Las Vegas.  The show, which began yesterday
  23. and runs through Friday, is expected to draw some 130,00 people.

  25. Adelson bought the Sands for $110 million in April of 1989 and said
  26. he'd spend $150 millino on a one million-square-foot convention center
  27. and a 1,300-room tower at the famous 40-years-old property.

  29. The Sands Expo and Convention Center opened in 1990 with 
  30. 575,000 square-feet.  But the rest of the convention center and
  31. the tower plans have been put on hold.

  33. Adelson said the financing market is not what it was in the
  34. 1980s, and the financial community is concerned that major
  35. new projects in Las Vegas may glut the local hotel market.
