- For their 35th wedding anniversary, my brothers and sisters and I took our
- parents to dinner and then went to the Empress Riverboat Casino for a couple
- of hours of gambling. Going on Sat night, the 9 pm boat was packed. There
- were only 3 $5 tables, about 6 $10, and the rest were $15 - $100. All
- craps tables had $10 minimums. I think every table was dealing out of a
- shoe - 6 decks I believe. By taking a "prime time" trip, it cost us each $18
- to board. We'll have to go back for their 9am weekday $4 cruise. Drinks were
- $1.50 for beer and $1 for soda. They even had a cigarette girl - why she kept
- stopping at the "No Smoking" tables is beyond me.
-
- After finding no $5 seats open, my brother Bob and I sat in at a $15 table. We
- recognized one of our dealers as a woman that dealt for us at the Rio back
- in Sept. and amazingly she recognized us. Bob did well, I was playing even
- quite a while, then went down and finally got up over my buy in by 50% and
- cashed out JUST before the table went arctic on everyone. One guy at the
- table was betting $50 consistantly, and made a nice profit on a split followed
- by double-down on both splits. My biggest hand was splitting 8s vs. 4, got
- another 8 and re-split, followed by stands on 10 and 7, then the 4th 8, another
- 10 and another 7. Dealer turned over a 10 and drew to 17. $80 bet and I get
- a push! We had good players, though one guy did split 7s vs and 8, got another
- 7 and 3 lousy hands and got a break when the dealer busted. One guy was a
- regular on the boat, and easily made $500. Dad sat in late in the trip and
- got hammered. Rules were DOA, DAS, H17.
-
- Did play a little craps at the end, but with $10 minimum plus odds (only
- single odds allowed) I had more out than I would in a Vegas game unless the
- able got hot. Only excitment there was a hard 8 winner with half the table
- having bets on the hardway. All the tables were busy throughout the trip.
-
- The slots and video poker were pretty full, but my brother & brother-in-law
- each won on the dueces wild machines. Too bad my folks didn't win, but it
- does sound like this trip may have encouraged them to go back to Vegas
- next week.
