- I took Hank to a schooling show this past Saturday, and, sure
- enough, after the first class, he started anticipating calls
- and listening to the announcer.
-
- I'd had enough. I told myself months ago I always wanted shows
- to be a positive experience for Hank, because he really enjoyed
- going to shows and being there, getting petted and loved and oooo'd
- and aaaa'd over, but this was the final straw. So many of you out
- there gave me the confidence to take a chance and really nail him.
- IT WORKED!!! He got pretty upset in the class I schooled him in,
- but we did opposites of what was being asked. He was confused for
- about half of the class, but then it dawned on him what was going
- on, and the next 2 classes I didn't need to get after him ONCE! He
- waited for me at every gate change, even at the reverse!!! I can't
- believe it only took the one class, and he wasn't even pissy after
- wards! He acted like I had not even gotten after him! His attitude
- was still happy and upbeat, and it's like he knew I had a good reason
- to get after him, and now that I did and he understood why, life is
- back to normal. He's really matured in the last 6 months. I'm soooo
- proud of him!
-
- And, the clincher was that the judge came up to me after the next
- 2 classes and said "Getting after him made all the difference in
- the world, didn't it?!" WOW!
-
- Anyway, we only showed English and obviously we ended on a positive
- note for the day! When I put him in the trailer to go home, he
- screamed...he never talks or screams in the trailer...what's wrong,
- I thought...OF COURSE!!! We show Western in the afternoon, and
- he was trying to tell me our day wasn't over yet, and why did I put
- him back in the trailer and why are we going home when we aren't
- finished yet!!! Silly boy!
-
- Like I said, he really enjoys "going for a ride" and "showing off".
- Our Dressage lesson (number 3 with this trainer, number 6 overall)
- went very well Monday night. I can't wait until the IBIS series
- next spring when I can really see and feel the difference in our
- Dressage rides and scores! :*)
-
- Open show on December 5th, Hunter/Jumper show sometime in the next
- 2 months, Dressage/Jumping/Open shows in Spanaway and Maple Valley,
- Washington sometime during the spring. I'll keep everyone posted,
- as usual. :*) :*)
