- Thanks to all who wrote in response to my panicked post about my horse
- Hank. (Sold when I thought he was just on loan).
-
- I went to see Hank that following Saturday and was greatly relieved to
- find him in good condition, out in a big pasture with another horse.
-
- The boy who bought him had joined the local Sherrif's Posse and was planning
- on riding Hank in the county fair parade and also in the opening
- ceremonies for the rodeo. (He's already ridden Hank as a member of a
- color guard).
-
- The people of course had no idea that Jim didn't own Hank when they bought
- him.
-
- I told them that when the boy got tired of him (he'll be going to college
- in a couple of years) or when Hank becomes too old to ride(he's 19) that
- I want him back.
-
- I told Jim I wanted the money they paid for Hank but, of course, haven't
- seen hide nor hair of it. A lawyer I know said to come by and he'd help
- me write up a letter. If I ever see the money I'll send the new family an
- agreement saying that when they're tired of him or I deem the horse too
- old to ride, I will return their money and I will get Hank back.
-
- As far as AQHA registry is concerned I still own the horse (I've put a
- freeze on his papers).
-
- Also, to the people out there who pointed out possiple legal considerations,
- couldn't the cost of upkeep replace a leasing fee? If it's on paper(which,
- naturally, I never bothered to do)
-
- You can bet I won't be so trusting again in the future.
