- AAHHH NO, Not a '70 FIAT! (We had one. Cute as a bug's ear but ALWAYS ran
- bad!)
-
- Tony, it REALLY isn't that bad. People do post here with problems, and no one
- ever posts "My horse is eating well and feeling good today". Just not news-
- worthy, I guess. But here's the stats on the horses I've owned:
-
- Francois, Morgan gelding. Came with a big knee, and that's all
- that ever bothered him. Sold to upgrade to Silvarin.
-
- Silvarin, QH mare. She did colic several times, but was always
- sound. Never for sure found the cause of the colics. Had to sell
- her when we BOTH were laid off work.
-
- Rusty, paint colt. Healthy as a horse. Never a sick or lame day
- when I had him. He was a rescue case, and a real bulldog-type
- horse. Just the opposite type of horse that I wanted. So I found
- him a good Western home.
-
- Amber, Appy mare. Came with wire scars and slight pre-existing
- lameness. Was manageable. She was never sick. (Poor college
- student then, bought the less-than-best horses). Got a job then
- decided to upgrade to Eagle.
-
- Eagle, Appy gelding. Never sick or lame. Sold to move.
-
- Misty, Appy mare. Never sick or lame. Sold because she was
- smart and spoiled by her previous owner. I made good progress,
- but she eventually had to go to a pro trainer after she threw me
- well.
-
- Leo, QH gelding. Came with pre-existing lameness (navicular).
- But manageable. Bought because he was so sweet and well
- trained. Still have.
-
- Razzie, Arab mare. Never sick, pulled a muscle once. Still have.
-
- Ari, Andalusian gelding. Healthy as a horse. Just got.
-
- SO, if you start with a healthy, sound horse, and manage them well, most
- horses stay pretty sound and healthy. What you use your horse for has a
- bearing too, as some horse sports are harder on them than others. I
- believe most horse owners go through minor things now and again, like rock
- bruises and bug allegies, but mostly they are minor things. Believe me,
- most horses are MUCH healthier than '70 FIATS!
