- Well, I'm back again asking for more advice.
-
- Thanks so much to those who sent posts about the dressmaker's dummy.
-
- Here's the latest problem: My friend is making a dress from a Vogue pattern.
- (Hi Cathrine!) It is an evening dress, the pattern is actually for a wedding
- gown.
-
- The pattern calls for an *under* lining as well as a regular lining and I can't
- see any reason for this. The dress is somewhat off the shoulders but does not
- have boning in it, so the underlining is not to cover that up. It suggests
- using material like satin for the bodice material so the underlining is not
- because the material is too thin or sheer.
-
- Also, in the yardage required section, yardage is given separately for the
- lining and underlining, suggesting that they should be of different materials
- but gives no indication of what type of material should be used for the
- underlining.
-
- I read the instructions and it says to bast the underlining to the bodice
- pieces directly then never mentions it again. Just put the bodice together,
- then the lining and then put them together, nothing unusual.
-
- I'm stumpted, I can't figure out why you would need this extra layer of
- material. I've gone over it and over it and just can't figure it out. AND, what
- kind of material should we get? Has anyone ever called Vogue to explain their
- directions? Does anyone know a number I could call?
-
- Thanks for any hints you may come up with.
