  11. Many thanks to those who responded to my inquiry concerning crafts
  12. stores in the downtown Chicago area.  I only had a two hour break
  13. the whole week and decided to go to the City Stitcher and 
  14. Kroch's and Brentanos.  Needless to say, I did my small part to 
  15. help the Chicago economy!

  24. Kroch's & Brentanos further South on Wabash has a nice collection
  25. of Books on crafts. There are good Art supply stores, Try Flax between
  26. Michigan and Wabash on Randolf.  Also, Brudno's at State and Ohio.

  28. There is a Vogue Fabric in Water Tower Place very near your Hotel.

  30. If you find a good weaver's supply store let me know, I haven't 
  31. found one.

  39. Hi, I hope I'm not too late to do you any good!
  40. I live in the Chicago suburbs, and am quite familiar with many (many, many!)
  41. stores that are _not_ in the Loop.  If you only want downtown, I can certainly
  42. check, but they'd be info, not recommendations.  Please let me know which
  43. geographical areas in which you're interested - how far away from your hotel.
  44. Will you have a car?  Are you more interested in "chain" craft stores (Lee
  45. Wards, Michaels, Franks), or in specialty stores (cross-stitch,quilting),
  46. or in regular fabric stores (JoAnn's, SoFro, Minnesota)....  I'd be glad to
  47. share what I know about these types.  If you're more specific about what you
  48. want, I can probably help.  Let me know!

  55. When I was in Chicago a year ago, I found a shop just a block from my
  56. hotel, called City Stitcher. it has mostly cross stitch and needlepoint.
  57. Especially interesting to the tourist were the Frank Lloyd Wright-
  58. designs inspired by stained glass windows in some of his houses. They
  59. also do some mail order. It's in the area of Chicago where the fanciest
  60. dept stores are, great to visit around Christmas time (I think it's
  61. called the Miracle Mile?)

  68. Oh, you're so lucky!  I LOVE downtown Chicago and it's like every year or two I
  69. just have to have a fix by getting in there.  I'm not a "shopper" normally, but
  70. that's a whole 'nother realm of experience -- more like sight-seeing or
  71. museum-visiting (which, of course, I love to do while there, too).

  73. Anyway, two stores that have been highly recommended to me and I'm going to
  74. make a real effort to visit next time in are:
  75.  
  76.         We'll Keep You in Stitches (mostly needlepoint & knitting, I guess)
  77. and
  78.         City Stitcher (mostly cross stitch & needlepoint, I hear).

  80. The first is on an east-west street (Oak? Elm? something like that) and in the
  81. first block west of Michigan Avenue -- this street is a couple of blocks north
  82. of Water Tower Place.  The second one I don't know about.  But the directory
  83. will tell you where it is.  Maybe you'll get an e-mail from the same person who
  84. recommended that place to me and she'll give you more details.  The first was
  85. recommended by a couple here at UNI whose taste I trust.

  87. I was in there in May and shopped my legs off for two days, but did not make it
  88. to any craft or needlework shops.  Next time!!  Good luck and have fun!
