  28. ob. beer:  thus far this year i've brewed
  29. three batches (i'm a late bloomer): the
  30. ginger version of rocky racoon, who's in
  31. the garden grand cru, and an aussie lager,
  32. all from pappazian's book.

  34. the book remarks that rocky racoon gets
  35. better with age.  boy does it ever!  i 
  36. bottled that batch back near the end of
  37. september, and during early october it had
  38. a mild bitter aftertaste that i wasn't that 
  39. keen on but drank anyways.  last week i hauled
  40. out the last remaining sixpack, and was
  41. astonished at how smoothly it had aged out...
  42. no bitter aftertaste at all!

  44. the grand cru is also a nice surprise.
  45. i was told that it made a better christmas
  46. beer than the other christmas beer in the 
  47. book, so i gave it a try.  it's mildy sweet,
  48. and has a neat flavor from the spices...i'm
  49. now trying NOT to drink it all before christmas.
  50. since i wanted to give away brew for presents.
  51. looks like i will have to start another batch
  52. of it this weekend so i will have some to 
  53. give away!

  55. the aussie lager is still aging in the bottle
  56. and has another week before it will be drinkable.
  57. from the pre-bottling taste test, it has 
  58. considerably less character and flavor than
  59. the previous two i've brewed...it will probably
  60. be a good movie-night beer.

  62. i'm almost tempted to alter this next batch
  63. of grand cru and chuck in some cinnamon and
  64. clove to see if i can't get some more nifty 
  65. spice flavor, but i'm kind of running out of
  66. time to produce 'gift' beer that's aged 
  67. appropriately and which tastes okay.
