- "Latest" report - I got this one last night.
-
- I have had several enquiries about the "missing" reports - there are
- seveal per day, and i will only collect one every few days. The press
- report, if any, stays the same (usually!) for several race reports.
-
- It takes some time for me to re-scan the FAX (aint got one of them
- there Fax Modem thingies...) and to gorrect the worst of the errors.
-
- There are maps too, but the re-scanned quality is very poor, and the
- resutant file is huge.
-
- Anyone else willing to get them?
-
- Bertil.

- GROUP 4 IN YACHT CLUB AT FLORIANOPOLIS
-
- Group 4 yacht described yesterday's incident which led them to head
- west for the port of Florianopolis yesterday. "We were progressing
- well through a large swell and were well up the fleet, with Heath
- Insured just 2 miles astern. We had earlier fallen off a couple of
- waves with a sickening crash but everything was fairly calm when
- mayhem broke. The skipper Mike Golding was called amidst a deafening
- noise of flapping sails and shouted to Nick Jubert on the helm to go
- off the wind. Mike O'Regan and Simon Littlejohn attached 2 spinnaker
- halyards to the broken forestay fitting to act as a temporary
- forestay. It took five men to lash down the forestay and sail, coping
- with a heaving deck and breaking waves.
-
- It was decided to make for Florianopolis to effect the
- necessary repairs. The crew have regained their cheerfulness and there
- is fighting talk of letting the others have the lead before the Group
- 4 yacht overtakes them in the roaring forties. David Cowan commented
- This is my worst night since the Germans bombed Manchester in 1942. It
- has also been Martin Hall's birthday and what better present could he
- have had wanted than a night on the foredeck fighting a broken stay
- Simon Clarke said it proved, ''what a strong and resourceful crew we
- have.'' The final word comes from skipper Mike Golding, "We may be
- down, but we are not out"
-
- Commercial Union Assurance crew member Sue Tight has reported
- that on Monday night they could see the navigation lights of eight
- other yachts. "A moving sight - especially for us. We now have our sea
- legs after a wet and boisterous day yesterday. Temperature is dropping
- and we axe preparing for the colder climes to come.'' They have
- reported seeing a turtle but no dolphins and add that icebergs and
- growlers are next on the list! Sue adds, "All is well and preparing to
- take the rest of the fleet by surprise when they least expect it.''
- The duty yacht, Pride of Teesside report that Nuclear Electric had
- some problems with their watermaker but they have successfully got it
- working again. Pride of Teesside had a similar problem on Sunday with
- their watermaker but they had it working again in no time.
