- I'd agree that Jonssons's field guide is excellent and surpasses the other
- main European field guides. Nevertheless, it's because the quality of most
- of the plates is so good that I'm a little disappointed that the occasional
- poor illustration remains in the latest version of the the guide (eg.
- Calandra lark?, Ring-necked duck?). I think Ian Lewington's illustrations in
- Alstrom et al's guide to Rare Birds of Britain and Europe are also superb
- and of more consistent quality than Jonnson's (of course there are fewer of
- them).
