- Maps made under the British Ordinance Survey have grid lines. They are really
- useful since one can refer to a relatively small spot clearly by using the 6-
- digit Grid Reference. However, maps made by US Geological Survey do not have
- grid lines. Nonetheless, there are UTM markings on the edges and the numbering
- looks similar to those of the grid lines in the British maps.
-
- My question is: Are the numbering of grid lines the direct derivative of the
- Universal Traverse Mercator? Are they related to each other by any chance?
- Any information will be greatly appreciated.
