- WRONG. I assume Michael means a certified guide for either mountain climbing
- or rock climbing. The American Mountain Guide Association (AMGA) certifies
- guides and accredits training organizations. AMGA certifies either rock
- guides or alpine guides. Rock guide certification is either level 1 or 2.
- To become a level 1 rock guide, an applicant must complete an approved basic
- course on rock GUIDING (~$450), must complete the orientation for an AMGA
- assessment, then successfully pass the assessment itself (~$1800). Time
- required is usually one to two years. Certified guides must then maintain
- membership in AMGA ($75 yearly dues). The purpose of the procedure is to
- weed out incompetent, fly-by-night operators. If you're AMGA certified,
- you're probably serious about what you're doing.
